I'm a Heartless Bitch because I don't believe I'm a lesser human
being because I'm female. Apparently that belief makes me one. I
grew up in South Africa (an inherently chauvinistic and male dominated culture),
and somehow developed into a woman who doesn't ascribe to gender roles - much to
the horror of my friends and family ("So unladylike ...").
I swear, I drink, I smoke, I have sex before marriage and I dance like I
don't care how many decrepit old men are ogling - all those things a good little
South African girl shouldn't do. I do them because I enjoy it and I'm a
free thinking human being who is entitled to make her own choices and take the
consequences.
I don't "hate" anyone - not men (they're not ALL bad) or stupid people (you
can't argue with genetics), but I refuse to tolerate people who try to put me in
a box and tell me how to think. I will not be seen as an object. I
say what I think, and make no apologies for it. I won't go out of my way
to be nasty or offend, but I won't just sit there and smile when I don't
agree. I am me.
I have a personality, damn it! And no, it isn't perfect, lovely or
necessarily agreeable. But it's mine, and I'd rather have a mind of my own
than any of those things. If that makes me a Bitch, so be it.
