Nichole
...you learn to be one in order to thrive! Surviving is for the weak. Standing on my own two feet and living my life in a way that lets me be true to myself has always meant doing things differently than the millions of other lemmings that surround us.
I refused to get married when I became pregnant because though that man was a super lay, he certainly was not marriage, nor fatherhood material. (And yes, Virgina, people CAN get pregnant while taking the pill.) I refused to involve lawyers when it came to child support, I did without it entirely.
I was a Heartless Bitch of a mother to my son and his friends, but they love me to this day. My house was always full of kids. I had very few rules in my house, but the ones that I did set down were inviolate. "We don't do that in this house" became my mantra. (No, you're not going to belittle one another, no, you're not going to torment other kids with words or actions, no, you're not going to come in without letting someone know where you are, well, you get the idea.)
I have a very strong sense of right and wrong and follow it, irrespective of whether that follows the popular way of thinking or not. And usually it doesn't.
This world is so full of people who are afraid of the truth that they wouldn't recognize it if it were a flashing neon sign. People lie because they think it's "polite" or because they don't want to "offend". Here's a perfect example of that: If I ask you a question (Did you like those greenbeans?) and you come back with a "Yes, they were good" when I know damn well that if you didn't lick your plate after eating them like you do with most everything else I put down in front of you, you are fucking lying. And if you lie about greenbeans I think it's safe to assume that 99.99% of everything else that comes out of your mouth is bullshit too. Most people let that lie slide, I can't.
It's a beautiful thing being a self-sufficient person. Half of the people I meet are astounded by what and who I am, the other half are secretly working on their own rebellion and admire my no-nonsense approach to life.
I'm only being me in the only way I know how.
