Before I start I'd like to state the fact that English is not my
first language. I
guess I could be labeled a Heartless Bitch because of the way I live my life. I
work as a technician in an IT-department surrounded by mostly men, or should I
say boys? I live alone, well, "alone" isn't quite right, I live with my three
children whom I try my best to raise to be competent, tolerant, compassionate
self-assured human beings. I wouldn't dream of being a burden to anyone,
everything I have done in my life has been by my own choice and even though I
now can see that there are things that didn't turn out the way I meant them to,
I don't regret a thing. Every turn, every mistake, every flaw or right has led
me up to here and that's precisely where I want to be.
Sweden, the country I live in, has an international reputation of being up
front when it comes to equality between the sexes, yet there are huge
differences in what you get paid for doing the same job depending on whether you
are a man or a woman. That pisses me off and I never fail to comment on it
whenever the subject comes up. The same applies to racism, fanatics in all forms
and a couple of other topics which I shall not go into now. My refusal to keep
my mouth shut under these circumstances has often rendered me the label Bitch
which I actually fail to understand, because I see no wrong in standing up for
yourself whatever sex you belong to. Actually, I find it more wrong NOT to;
being a part of the silent mass is passive, cowardly and a sign of
insecurity.
I'm really not into labels of any kind, I believe every human being is
unique, well, at least from the start, some of the rest may be depending on
upbringing and environment, but everybody's got free will to make their own
choices, and to be labeled based on just one or two of them seems unjust to me.
But on the other hand, if people are going to call me a Bitch, they might as
well call me a Heartless one. In that case I would at least be accompanied by
others whose opinions I could proudly call my own.
