I know my priorities in life. While I acknowledge that they are in some aspects uncommon I will not drop them because relatives, self-proclaimed "friends" or even people who hardly know me want me to change because "it is only for my own good". This is my life, so I do have the right to my own bad.
While we're at it: I am not interested in what certain parts of society believe I should or should not do or be on account of my two X Chromosomes or any other similarly stupid reason.
People often accuse me of "being selfish". This usually happens if I fail to help them/do them a favour/listen to their complaints because I have to get on with my own stuff or they could easily sort out matters on their own.
This does not mean that I won't support someone who needs help, but I draw the line if the person is not genuinely willing to improve their situation or demands an unreasonable amount of help. No whining or emotional blackmail in the world is going to change that.
I speak my opinion politely, but emphatically whether people like it or not. If you don't want to hear the truth about what I'm thinking about you or your actions: don't ask me. It's that simple.
Taking responsibility for ones actions is a trait I value very highly. If I did something wrong I apologize without expecting instant forgiveness and try to set it right. Also, expect others to do the same.
