Having had the great, good fortune to grow up in a family populated with strong, smart, courageous women and smart, nurturing men, I have done my best to do my forebears proud. I have raised two males who frequently demonstrate some combination of those qualities.

I've learned that if I can't hold myself to high standards there's no hope of getting much that's worthwhile from others. I have built a good career in a demanding field, earned the respect of those around me by delivering solid results again and again.

I say what I think, do what I say, and live with the consequences of my actions. I believe every human being has to do what they can to make the world a better place. I know how to give people the space to live their lives by their own beliefs, but also know when to point out the difference between being true to yourself and trespassing on the truths others hold dear. Life would be simple if it was only right or wrong; black or white; on or off. But it's not, and like everybody I will battle to the end of this life to find answers to the big questions that make some sense. If I can do that with grace and strength of heart, learn to recognise love and know when to call down the wrath of the universe on hate, maybe I'll have something good to take to the next life.
