I believe in going the road less traveled. While most of the girls I know/grew up with are eagerly giving up their individualism to be married or engaged now that we've hit the ripe old age of 23, I have goals I want to achieve before saddling myself with a husband and kids. This, of course, makes my mother hang her head in shame at the club when she hears the scores of wedding announcements (especially because I let a couple "good ones" get away). I didn't realize that putting myself through grad school while saving enough money to travel around the world when I graduate was such a disappointment.

There's nothing wrong with marriage, I just think you should accomplish all your individual goals first and really find out who you are before becoming part of couple. The people in my small Midwest town think there's something wrong with me, my family insist it's my selfishness that is keeping me from "getting a husband," and I sit back and laugh because I see how dependent these women are on the men in their lives, and I know the only person I'll ever have to depend on is me.
