I think I owe a lot of the credit to my mother, as she survived in the trucking industry for over thirty years, from a time when women drivers were almost unheard of. Her determination to keep a good job despite the adversity presented by dull, rude and arrogant sorts of men (and people in general) has taught me a great deal about striving for my goals and not letting the dumbshits of the world get the better of me.

The rest has come from lifelong observation of the kind of woman I grew up never wanting to be; all the poor old widows who haven't a clue in Hell of how take care of themselves or manage their finances, because they married at 18 and their husbands did all of that. I, too, am married now, but to my *friend*, not someone I need in my life in order to survive.

In short (and I hope this isn't too long already), while I wasn't always as strong, I believe that I now have the strength and competence to really call myself a Heartless Bitch.
