Jacky
I'm a heartless bitch because I don't believe in outsourcing personal happiness. I take responsibility for my own happiness, and I expect others to do the same. I have no patience with people who sit around waiting for their partner, parents, friends or strangers on the bus to make them happy. I sincerely hope the people I care about are putting their energy into themselves, and I wish them all the best in that pursuit.
As an adult in the modern, developed world that vast majority of our circumstances are under our control. People make bad choices, those choices make them miserable, and then they mope around the house like a whiny little boy lamenting the terrible unfairness of the world. My message to them is: Stand up, take some responsibility and start making better choices. Get some fucking perspective and move on. If someone calls me looking for sympathy they better be very sure they're ready to talk constructively about the problem, because if they call me just to whinge my patience will wear out remarkably quickly.
While I'm on the theme of personal responsibility, it also extends to responsibility for ones actions. If someone is rude, mean, or otherwise behaves badly it is not justified by their crappy childhood, the 'tough time' they're having right now, the overcast weather or any other piss-weak excuse they want to come up with. Surely people can't mean "My parents were mean to me" to be serious justification for their behaviour 40 years later? Everyone's got a life tragedy, just because certain people are louder about it doesn't make their situation more pitiable.
I'm a heartless bitch because I don't believe that being an intelligent, opinionated woman makes me heartless or bitchy at all. I like who I am, and I enjoy what I do. I don't see any reason why I should apologise for that. And if people don't like it, or they don't like me, then why can't they just bugger off instead of hanging around telling me about it?
I may not be as articulate as the regular contributors on your website, but I certainly aspire to make a thoughtful contribution.
