My friends gawk at me in amazement because I am in college and have never had a boyfriend. There have been guys who tried to pursue me, but they all came on with their sob stories and overly sentimental words and condescending attitudes that I just had to say no, no matter how many of my friends afterwards "couldn't believe that you did that! That's so mean!" One of the guys kept saying that everything I did was "cute", and when I talked about a book I recently read or a symphony concert I attended, he looked at me with the look one gives a puppy when they've remembered to pee outside. How adorable. How bloody sickening.
I see my friends get into emotionally abusive relationships ALL THE TIME and keep getting into them...my roommate was in a relationship with a military man who spent all his time calling her and then whining about how she never talks to him and he wants to see her more and why doesn't she spend time with him and call him? Why does she have to go hang out with her friends? You're not calling me AT ALL today? Nooooo! Grow up, bastard. Get a fucking life that's NOT MY ROOMMATE'S.
I have an extremely low tolerance for stupidity, insipidness, sappy sentimental romanticism that men think they need to use on women in order to get them to pay attention to them. This includes emo men, drama kings, melodramatic whiney bastards who play the sympathy card and manipulate your emotions...and of course extremely needy guys who really need a good Bitchslap. Sadly, those men are most of the men in my age group right now.
Small wonder I find myself swooning over men in science fiction. At least they have a modicum of intelligence.
