I'm a Heartless Bitch because...
My life is mine and I'll live it like I might not get another, which means
not compromising myself, my dreams, or my integrity for anyone else.
I have no patience for people who don't own their choices or for people who
think a shitty choice gives them the right to play the victim card (and thus to
whine to me about how hard their life is). Life isn't fair. The barrage of
choices sometimes sucks. But an intelligent person-a worthwhile person-picks
themselves up and works to better their situation.
Shouting "sisterhood" in one breath and calling me a "misogynist" under the
next will not keep from questioning a woman (just because she's a woman) about
her choices. I'm a feminist, but my brand of feminism does not believe "choice"
is a keyword that excuses the user from any analysis of her motivations or
criticism of her actions.
Nowhere in my pro-choice handbook does it say I have to support and/or
celebrate every choice a woman (or a man) makes. If I think your actions defy
logic and practicality as I see them, I'm going to call you on it. I'm not here
to be your pep-squad.
I have neither the time nor the energy to waste on men who assume my life
was empty before they stumbled into it or who believe that I should salivate
over them for whatever attention they decide to bestow upon me. I'm not a dog. I
don't beg for treats or attention and if you pat me on the head-be it literally
or metaphorically-you will lose a few fingers.
I have no time for anyone who thinks that because I have breasts and a
uterus that I don't have a brain that functions on higher levels.
I'll treat you like a person, deserving of a modicum of respect. Treat me
the same and we'll get along just fine. Treat me otherwise and you'll only do it
once.
