An example, because sometimes I have trouble writing things down the way I want to:

I was not afraid to tell the workman, who wolf whistled and made some pretty vulgar gestures in my direction on the day I wore a skirt, to "go fuck himself".

My legs are longer than average, so skirts tend to look shorter on me than they do on "normal" girls. When I was about 14 I stopped wearing skirts completely because a forty-something year old truck driver tooted his horn as he drove past me at the bus stop and a "friend" asked if I was dressed like that because I was visiting the harbour (the red light district of our town) after school.

Over the next four years (and after finding some real friends) I realised that "hey, wearing a skirt shouldn't make other people treat me differently. I like my legs. Why shouldn't I be able to show them off?"

Over the last four years I've regained my self-confidence and learned that sometimes you have to tell people "no" and take control. I don't want to spend my life letting other people make decisions for me.

I am my own person. Anybody who doesn't understand isn't worth my time.
