As a little girl I was told to sit up straight and stop thinking so much. I learned to sit up straight, but I never did stop thinking for myself. The "bad" part was that I also didn't put s mental stop between thinking and opening my mouth. The boys in school hated my guts. I ridiculed them, refused to let them put me down, simply because I didn't flip my hair and giggle when they walked by.

I know when to apologize, but I'm most certainly not anyone's doormat! "Hey, whore, pass me the hole puncher," resulted in me (at age 12) looking at him coldly and asking him if the size of his pre-pubescent penis was the thing making him so aggressive.

When one particularly interesting teacher decided to tell me to tone down the independence a few days ago I knew I needed to figure this out. The guys are frequently allowed to leave school property, while we're supposed to sit in home ec? Not with me. I take charge and I do it in heels.
