I drew the line; he crossed over it. I kicked his ass out, hired a lawyer, and took back my "half" of the house (that I paid the entire down payment on). So now: I own my own house.
I have one doctorate degree and am finishing another. I am becoming a specialist in my field. The government pays me to solve problems. I've been in two relationships with men who claimed they were feminists and supported my career but then whined and moaned that they don't get enough attention, and asked for all this reassurance that they were "good enough". I expect my partners to negotiate and communicate. I expect my partners to tell me their needs and share their concerns. I have no tolerance for quietly resenting what isn't happening. If someone doesn't like something about their life they should get off their ass and do something about it.
Think you're overweight and you feel bad about that? Go to the gym! Wish you could go back to school and prove to yourself you are smart? Sign up for a class! Want your partner to spend time with you? Try asking her to go to do something (and hey, why not specifically come up with what you'd like to do? Go to the zoo? See a certain movie? Ask for it! Women can't read your mind!).
If your life isn't what you want it to be, create the life you want. I am a successful, strong, powerful modern-day woman warrior. I love my life. If fate brings a man who can toe the line without having to have his shoes and socks removed by someone else and then shown the line to do it, great. If not - fine, too. I have too good a life to spend any of my energy on a man-child. My energy, love, passion, and time will be spent in service of my higher purposes: to teach, to discover, to mentor, to improve health outcomes, to be the finest friend, daughter, and sister I can be. (P.S. and maybe, one day, I'll add 'mother' to that list, man or no man)
