Patricia
I started out strong. I had a mother who was determined to raise a confident, successful daughter. I was a strong student, very active in extra curricular activities. Later on however, I fell through the cracks somehow. Dropped out of high school in my first year, did drugs, got into trouble, and was a generally lost little girl. But after a couple years I realized that really wasn't working out for me. I had plans and I wanted to make them happen. So I stopped everything. I put it all behind me and got my GED. I enrolled in the community college and later transferred to a university. Now, I'm about ready to graduate with a Geology B.S. and a math minor. And I plan on saving up this summer and can hopefully make enough money by the fall to move out west and continue my education at graduate school in Arizona.
It was important to me to not only have a career that challenged me and made me happy, but to be able to support myself. My father died when I was real young, and my mom had to take care of me all alone. It was difficult, but she was the strongest person I know. She went back to school and made her own way. And in the process, she showed me the traits and qualities it takes to be a woman that is truly beautiful and awesome. She never married or dated after my father died, and showed me that you can do whatever you need to do, and if you have to go it alone, so be it. But do it.
