and Damned Proud of it!

I cannot stand girls who live for the attention of boys. Sure, I like male attention, but I will not inconvenience myself unnecessarily. I've seen Asian magazines for girls (I'm Asian) that go so far as to coach girls to remove finger, arm and back hair. Just how much time will that all take? Do guys actually care? I only epilate my legs when I feel like it, and so far no one's commented. Also, what is it with those girls who wear super-short shorts/skirts to college? This is not a club. There is air conditioning on. We are here to get an education, or at least I am.

*draws breath*

Another gripe I have is with guys who are creepy. Some people think I am being mean or judgmental, but honestly, how else do you describe a guy who chases you around school with a camera? Tries to film you in class? Text messages you about your butt for several messages even after you not-so-subtly tell him to stop? PROPOSES MARRIAGE while trying to get an atheist to convert to his religion? "Ah," a guy friend said, "what about the guy who you say stalked you in Foundation? He didn't actually do anything to you." Well, guy friend, that guy leered at me whenever we were in the same area, harassed my friend for information on me (yet never actually asked for a way to, you know, actually converse with me), and generally made me uncomfortable. Creepy. (To my discredit as a wannabe Heartless Bitch, I actually gave the first guy a second chance, which he blew with aforementioned messages about butt; and I would at least entertain the second guy with polite conversation had he actually manned up enough to approach me.)

I guess I really have no idea how to end this (or to write this, so I'm probably all over the place), thus I will tick off the Twenty Ways I am (aspiring to be) a Heartless Bitch:

1. I hate cutesy voices. I know some people who have naturally cutesy voices, which annoys me but I can tolerate, and I have heard some people who do it on purpose to act cute with guys. Strangulation would be a nice way to solve this. Alas it is illegal.

2. Fashion is a very very good way to earn money because fashion changes every blink. I have nothing good to say about exposed zippers or harem pants. Ugh.

3. Never watched Steel Magnolias, but if someone is sick and refuses treatment, it's bloody well their own fault.

4. Museums are fun. I once had a trip with a girl friend to the local science museum and it was the best girls' day out ever.

5. I just started taking kickboxing classes (which I've wanted to for years but was too chicken to call the center); the real type for fighting as opposed to the aerobics type. The center smells of sweat and is not the most glamorous place to be in, but boy does it feel good to be pummelling a punch bag, and oh so empowering to learn how to kick properly.

6. Can't build a PC, can change a tire, can hammer and saw stuff, can unclog sink. More importantly, I'd love to learn how to do these myself. (My grandmother can probably build a retaining wall though. She's awesome.)

7. Mmm, yes. I like guys who can fight, and as a psych student, I know the importance of being able to communicate well in all types of relationships.

8. I know the world is not a pretty place, and while I still try to have optimism (so as to not be totally jaded at 19), I know that I am the only one who can deal with my own shit.

9. I do not go to church, but if anyone tried to convince me that a woman's most important role is wife and mother, I would blink at them blankly and go back to whatever I was doing.

10. Old ladies can be pretty interesting (refer #6 about my grandmother), but unruly kids are hell.

11. Men seem so terrified when women act like men, even though they would pay women no heed if women acted like "women".

12. I subscribe to National Geographic and find it fascinating.(especially after having taken an anthropology course) However I do admit to reading "women's" magazines when I am having my hair cut.

13. I do not see why males can sit like that and I cannot. I do not see why I should walk and talk and sit and act in a certain manner that does not actually benefit me.

14. Not familiar with the Jane Austen story.

15. I am guilty of behaviour that is intended to make people feel bad for me. I use it as a weapon to make other people look like the bad person (which in most cases, they are, for various reasons.) However, I use this sparingly, and almost never without good reason.

16. I try to avoid and/or resolve drama when it crops up around me. I am not a drama student so I do not wish to create it.

17. I have quite a few close female friends, but most if not all of them would enjoy reading this website. Of course, I also have my fair share of close platonic male friends.

18. I am not in an area where Kmart or Wal-Mart operate.

19. I did not watch that movie, but an engagement walk-in-closet certainly sounds more useful than a ring. (Which reminds me: I hate the song "She Wears My Ring" because he sounds like he just bought a pet. Though pets can run away, I suppose.)

20. I am working on this one, against a lifetime of low-self-esteem issues. I am lucky to have had a counsellor and good friends helping me with my insecurity, and I feel that I have improved in this area. One thing to consider is that in an Asian culture, humbleness is prized, and we are taught to politely demur when complimented, which hardly works wonders for self-esteem. However, I am aware of this and can actively work against this conditioning.

Phew, that took a while. Now to wait and see if I get in. =D
