I was diagnosed with breast cancer exactly one year ago. In that year, I had a double mastectomy plus 3 other minor surgeries, underwent chemotherapy, had my hair fall out, gained 20 pounds from the steroids I was given to protect my heart, and had to have a hysterectomy because of some side effects I was having to a drug...you get the picture. I've actually had men tell me that I should have reconstructive surgery instead of wearing prostheses because my chances of getting married again will be better if I have real breasts. What, it isn't enough that I'm a single mom who kept the house going and cared for my 14 year old son and continued to earn upwards of six figures despite being faced with a potentially fatal disease? Then I get told to get over it and that I'm bitter and emotionally unstable. Well.
