I'm a former stay-home-mommy who actually (gasp!) chose to return to my career when my daughter and I reached a point where we bored each other silly. I'm one of an apparent dying breed of mothers who chooses to trust myself and my own instincts rather than relying on one-size-fits-all rules that often make no sense. I'm raising my daughter to not be a "nice girl" - whether that means standing up for herself on the playground or insisting that she get to make a lion (the boys' project!) rather than a lamb in art class. I don't believe motherhood and martyrdom are synonymous. I insist on having a life of my own where Barney the dinosaur doesn't exist. I'm taking a stand against the lacto-nazi mothers who have the gall to ask why I bothered to have a child if I wasn't going to stay home and raise her myself!
