I grew up in a Heartless Bitch family and we didn't know we were different.

We have 5 girls (all Heartless Bitches) and 1 brother who is married to a wonderful, strong willed, take-no-bullshit woman. Growing up in this environment, I was amazed and shocked that other families were not like us. Other wives actually asked permission to do things and centered their lives around their husbands. We thought they were strange.

I thought (and still think) that it is the right thing to express yourself, know what you want, have the ambition to go after it, and get rid of the dead weight that prevents you from achieving your goals.

I create my opportunities, not my face, my body or who I am related or not related to.

My mother used to have a saying about men who used to beat women "He would only hit me once, the bastard has to sleep sometime". (She should be an honorary Heartless Bitch).

I too am long past trying to support friends who allow themselves to be treated badly but are not willing to change their circumstances. Shit or get off pot!

This solid foundation gave me what I needed to carry forward in life. If I don't fit into the model of a perfect woman, so what, that's not my problem, it belongs to someone else. I am proud of who I am, a 40's aboriginal woman who loves, laughs, cries and lives my life in a way that I have to answer to me and can sleep at night. I can only hope to pass the qualities my mother passed to me to my daughters. Yes, these are bitchy qualities but they make me who I am and I am proud of that.
