To me, being a Heartless Bitch means understanding what is going on in this world, having a dissenting opinion that is anchored with facts, and demonstrating that women are concerned with global issues -- not just gossip and Ally McBeal. We can be impassioned about things that do not DIRECTLY affect us, we can CARE about others' disenfranchisement, we can spit in the face of anyone who thinks we are only emoting and expressing our fury because it is "that time of the month."
I'm a Heartless Bitch because I know how to express my anger and disgust with certain aspects of the status quo. While it is fun to lash out at moronic individuals, I find that you get your point across more effectively if you speak slowly and carefully. For instance: When arguing with ultra right-wingers about their ideologies, one can take great pleasure in pointing out that the abortion that they/their girlfriend had last year just reinforces the ridiculous hypocrisy in their arguments. It's easy to say you're pro-life and hate "baby killers," a bit more difficult to actually embrace your purported beliefs. But, I still don't know what's worse -- a totally apathetic person, or a completely misguided zealot?
It's also fun to use U.S. government statistics to reveal the bullshit in certain arguments. Like when Mr. Six-pack Joe Suburbia claims that racism no longer exists, it helps to point out that while Blacks make up about 12% of the country's pop., they represent about 44% of the prison population. No, Blacks don't commit more crimes, asshole. Studies show that Whites engage in more illicit drug use than Blacks, however, sentencing rates reflect that Blacks are imprisoned about 10 times more than Whites. It's institutional racism at its worst. So, you ask, what the hell does this have to do with being a Heartless Bitch? I don't know, but it feels so good to be a little white girl and reduce an ignorant, venomous toad to his/her knees. I'm done preaching.
We are not ranting simply about "that jerk who left me for another woman" or "wahhhh, I can't find a decent guy." When 90% of your angst is a result of that sort of bitch-speak, then you need to realize that you're miserable because your whole world is dependent on men. I don't hate this type of woman; they are a result of social conditioning that has gone on for hundreds of years. I pity them. It means that women who actually DO have a clue just need to work harder to annihilate the forces that perpetuate this sickening dynamic.
Heartless Bitchiness is more than just bitching. From what I've read on this site, you give me the impression that ACTION does accompany your rhetoric. You can discern what is bullshit in any form, and feel entitled to do something about it...
