Bridgett
I have no tolerance for stupidity. I'm not talking about genuine mental
deficiency; I mean deliberate ignorance, the all-too-common, apparently
blissful state in which people choose to ignore selected facts (often to
the detriment of everyone else) for the purpose of making their own
lives easier. Unfortunately, the practice seems to be growing in
popularity at an alarming rate. I've been watching the phenomenon with
horrified wonder for most of my life, and at this point I can say with
some confidence that willful ignorance is at the root of almost all of
the actions that really piss me off. Hypocrisy, arrogance, and zealotry
almost always trace back to the decision not to know, and more
importantly not to think. Let's face it: thinking can be a challenge,
and the truth is often ugly; but refusing to look at it doesn't make it
any prettier, it just makes you part of the ugliness to those of us who
have our eyes open. Who wants life to be easy, anyway? Easy is safe, but
it's also boring; if you get nothing out of life but comfort, what is
the point?
I suppose the truth is that everyone has the right to choose how they
want to live, even if they choose blindness. However, as one of the
thinking people who finds such people to be at best really fucking
annoying and at worst a new kind of parasite, I reserve the right to go
around popping those bubbles of illusion every chance I get. Maybe, once
in a while, I can actually get someone to think for themselves. If
nothing else, at least I get to watch them squirm. Hey, even a Heartless
Bitch needs to have a hobby.
