I don't apologize for who I am, the mistakes I've made, or what I have
to say. Once involved in an abusive marriage, I stood up and said you
cannot and will not do this to me again. I took the cat, walked out the
door and got a job. I went back to school and now work full time as a
paralegal as I study to become a shrewd lawyer. In my spare time, I
volunteer at the local battered women's shelter and get involved
politically in support of stronger domestic violence laws. I have the
opportunity to help these women realize their own power and strength
inside and the ability to lend my voice to the cause. People tell me to
"tone it down," that "not everyone needs to hear about these issues,"
but they do. I have a voice and I have a brain and it's my fucking right
to use them both. I will not change who I am because it would make you
more comfortable, and I do not water- down the issues because you think
they're too harsh. I will not alter or apologize for who I am to please
ANYBODY. If you don't like it, deal with it or get the fuck out of my
way.
