I think that the sexiest that you can be is capable and in control, and I live my life accordingly.
I reject the notion that because I do not possess a boyfriend/husband I am *less than*. I desperately crave time to myself, and get cranky when I don't get it. There is nothing wrong with being single, despite what the media would have you believe. My customers are shocked and saddened to hear that *a pretty girl like me* doesn't have a boyfriend, but don't give a flip to hear what I have been researching in school, or what amazing book I just read. It's demeaning, but then again, so is waiting tables.
I cannot stand the trend of learned helplessness that I see among the people that I am surrounded by: male and female alike. We live in this crazy culture of fear, perpetuated by a media that would have you believe that danger awaits you at every turn. The media would have us remain within our houses, waiting out the danger watching television and eating delivery, thankful to be living in a free country. Bah! Get off your pampered asses and realize that we live in the most prosperous culture in the world and it has turned us into these arrogant, spoiled and useless people! Go explore and come back with your little minds blown.
I cannot stand those who cannot take responsibility for their choices and stand behind them as their own. All you have in this life is you, embrace that fact and cherish yourself! Forgive (that includes yourself), remember the lesson, and move the fuck on: life is too short.
I am tired of being told that I am too abrasive and opinionated because I do not agree with the current party line. This holds true mostly in my professional life: I am an academic, and feel as if the politically correct, culturally sensitive trend is breeding a form of elitism all its own. I am not asking you to agree with me, but I am asking for the respect that I give when listening to other's speak, even if they are spouting the hackneyed bullshit I have been hearing for years.
I also cannot stand how popular it is to be dumb. I see it on MTV all day long. These people stand up there and actually think it is alright just to remain ignorant. It reminds me of the jock asshole that spent all of junior year at my prestigious prep school making fun of me because I dressed differently and made good grades. He pumps gas now up the street from my school. Ha.
Speaking in terms of sexuality, I am tired of being told that I am *too much* for most men because I refuse to follow the conventional rules of dating, marrying, childrearing, etc. I am honest and forthcoming from the beginning about my needs and wants. I expect reciprocity. I do not feel that games or coyness have any place in my relationships. I also do not feel that I need to be covert or cute about what I expect. I am a woman and I like men, and that seems to be a striking admission to make for some. I just don't get it.
On the topic of childbearing, there is one more thing: If I ever hear *I'm sorry* in response to my decision not to have children again, it will be too soon. Sorry for who? I am exercising my right as a free woman who believes that every child should be a wanted child. Thanks for the input on what I should do with my body, since it is obviously your problem.
I am single, NOT looking, and happy. I have a job, attend school, and my friends are people who challenge me emotionally and intellectually to think outside the silly little box that I was raised in. (white, upper class, Catholic, yawn.)
Basically, I am busy trying to be the best person that I can be. I do not have time to waste on people who are not, so get the hell outta my way!
